Prisms of Colour, a solo exhibition by Charlottetown artist Caroline Crawford, makes its debut at the The Gallery @ The Guild, Charlottetown August 1 to 18. Fifteen quilts and quilted wall hangings will be on display.
Crawford uses hand-dyed cotton and silks to create expressions from her mind’s eye. Her technique is to sew colours into shapes, shapes into patterns. Traditional quilting patterns are manipulated in non-traditional ways, with emphasis on design. The pieced tops are quilted in a style borrowed from the traditional and developed into a contemporary style. Thematically Crawford likes to explore ideas and elements such as water, growth, movement. Inspiration comes from the brush of the outdoors air, the tactility of plants, water, and the earth itself.
The opening reception will be held August 2 from 5–8 pm and is open to the public.
The Gallery @ The Guild is open afternoons Tuesday to Saturday by donation. www.theguildpei.com
