Canada ROCKS! is a musical revue of outstanding Canadian hits which was a crowd favourite at the Festival when it debuted in 2005. Inspired by the 1970 ‘Festival Express’, this rock’n’roll train-trek traverses the country recognizing more than 70 prominent rock artists and songs who have defined Canada’s musical landscape. This remounted rock musical is substantially revised from the original, and includes new breakout artists like Feist, Arcade Fire, Metric, Carly Rae Jepsen, Justin Beiber, and more. Legends such as Neil Young, Rush, Anne Murray, Blue Rodeo, The Tragically Hip, and Bryan Adams, will also be recognized, as well as a special tribute to Rita MacNeil, and P.E.I.’s own Dr. Music, Doug Riley.
Plays selected dates from July 1 - September 24, 2014
The festival’s crown jewel, Anne of Green Gables—The Musical™ launches its 50th consecutive season on July 3, 2014. The nation’s longest-running musical is an enduring classic told through elaborate sets, modern staging, and charming choreography. “A wise man once told me to always be faithful to your author,” recalls Canadian icon, Don Harron, the musical’s original scriptwriter and co-lyricist. “I knew that Lucy Maud Montgomery was always the boss, and that it was our job to bring her vision to the stage—to Charlottetown.” Anne of Green Gables—The Musical™ will welcome back its kindred spirits from 2013, with Katie Kerr as the imaginative orphan and P.E.I.’s Jessica Gallant as Diana Barry. Various reunions, luncheons, and special programming will be announced in the months to come to honour Anne’s golden anniversary.
